Whether it’s a kitchen disco, a dance studio or a digital stage, what moves you to move? What is the role of dance in your life and what does the practice and study of dance have to offer the world and why on earth do we do it?

Dancing has always been part of human history but what will it become in the future?

Welcome to Dance Futures, a podcast that discusses dance as a way of life.

Self confessed 'dance geek' Ruth talks to inspiring independent dance artists about their life post-graduation, their professional practice and asks how we can dance in and out of hope for the here and now and manifest change for the dancers of the future.

Let’s get moving!

Dr Ruth Pethybridge is a choreographer, facilitator and researcher. She has delivered dance workshops and projects in diverse settings with all ages: from babies to the elderly and everything inbetween. Her socially engaged practice emphasises creativity in choreographic processes, finding ways to form people's unique choices and ways of moving into choreographic work and blurring the lines between social gathering and performance. Ruth’s research interests center on the politics of participation, dance and culture, social dancing and embodiment, she regularly publishes and presents her research internationally.

Robyn Alvarez is the 'finger on the pulse'. Robyn is a performance artist working mainly within dance and music. Robyn is passionate about using art as a tool for activism and hope to create safe and fun creative spaces for all to be a part of. But if that all goes to pot, Robyn wants to travel the world putting smiles on peoples faces, because 'it puts a smile on mine'. Robyn will be bringing her weekly obsessions to each podcast episode, discussing music you should be listening to, artists to check out and accounts to follow.

Sofie Parsons is the creative producer for Dance Futures Podcast. She is an artist working mainly in the intersections of dance and film. At current, Sofie's passion for sharing creativity has led her work to be based in publicity and marketing. Sofie is hoping to expand her practise as a facilitator and space holder for others through their journeys with movement.
